The Town of Elkton has initiated the Elkton Recycles Program, scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 5, and Friday, May 6, depending on the collection route.
Consistent with our previous announcements, containers for recyclable materials must be prominently marked with the white letter “R” (or other contrasting color), or with the word “RECYCLABLES”, or with the white (circling arrows) recycling logo prominently displayed on the container in order for our contractor to easily identify containers with recyclables during collection. We recommend the purchase of a 34-gallon plastic container that displays the recycling logo, available at local retail stores for about $20.00, or a plain, similarly sized container, that displays the RECYCLABLES sticker. “RECYCLABLES” stickers are available free of charge at the administration office.
Collection customers should NOT bag recyclables, but place loose recyclable materials in marked containers, as described. Bagging interferes with the identification and processing of recyclables.
Single stream recycling allows customers to mix recyclable materials together for collection, including Paper: newspaper, milk & juice containers, cardboard (flattened), mixed paper (flattened boxes), bagged shredded paper, and office paper. Plastics: bottles & jugs, yogurt containers, butter tubs, small toys, crates, flower pots, laundry baskets, bagged grocery bags, buckets, totes & bins, other food containers, and cups. Metals: aluminum, tin, steel, and bi-metal cans, aluminum foil, aluminum pie plates and food trays. Glass: bottles, drinking glasses, and glass dishes. For more information please go to: www.ccrecycling.org
The Elkton Recycles Program applies to residential customers served by the Town of Elkton and will be implemented on all collection routes. As previously indicated, Waste Management of Delaware, the Town’s collection contractor, will begin collecting recyclables on Thursday, May 5, and Friday, May 6 – the second day of the twice-weekly collection schedule, depending on the route.
Please contact the Town of Elkton’s Administration Office by telephone at (410) 398-0970 or by email at administration@elkton.org with any questions, comments, or recommendations.
